The Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment (LLSA) promotes continuous learning.

LLSA test requirements: ABEM-certified physicians must complete four LLSA activities in the first five-year period of their ten-year certification; learning is reinforced with an open-book, unproctored test, based on the LLSA Reading List.

Once certified physicians move to a 5-year certification, they will no longer have an LLSA requirement.
