ABEM Blueprint: Your Input Requested

Oct 07, 2022

ABEM is in the process of updating its exam content. This process is detailed in ABEM policy. The EM community has been invited at multiple stages to provide its feedback. In short:

  1. The ABEM Knowledge, Skills and Abilities were updated in 2021. The result of this process was used to inform revisions to the EM Model.
  2. To further support the revisions to the EM Model, ABEM conducted a survey (Job Analysis) of EM community in February 2022 to provide feedback about physicians’ clinical practices, which was used as the basis for revisions to the EM Model.
  3. ABEM and other EM organizations approved the updates to the EM Model, which will be published in 2023.
  4. The analysis of the survey was also used to suggest weights for ABEM’s test content. These weights are known as the blueprint, which is used to develop all ABEM tests.

The Board considered all the above factors and recommended the following blueprint weights. The next step of this process is to get input from the EM community. The recommended weights are provided in the table below.

The feedback period is now closed.
