ABEM Celebrates Pride Month

Jun 01, 2022

Pride Month is currently celebrated each June to honor the Stonewall Uprising in 1969. After a violent police raid on the Stonewall Inn, members of the gay community in Manhattan protested for their right to live openly and peacefully. In 1970, the first Pride march was held in New York City as a way for the community to gather and commemorate their demonstrations the previous year against abusive laws and discrimination.

Today, Pride Month continues to honor the history, experiences, and accomplishments of the LGBT+ community and to demand equal rights. ABEM is celebrating this month as a proud ally that supports and embraces all the human diversity represented in EM physicians, patients, ABEM volunteers, and staff. We also recognize that being an ally for one month is simply not enough. The ABEM Board of Directors has affirmed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as a strategic imperative, allowing for the continuation and priority of ABEM DEI initiatives.

You care for your patients 24/7/365, you are who you are 24/7/365, and ABEM will support you 24/7/365. Happy Pride Month!
