MedTox Cognitive Expertise Exam Process

Eligibility

Medical Toxicology-certified physicians must meet the eligibility criteria set by their primary board.

Exam Process

Registration and Scheduling

ABP- and ABPM-certified Physicians

  • Physicians who wish to take the MedTox Cognitive Expertise Examination will register through their primary board

ABEM-certified Physicians

  • Physicians who wish to take the MedTox Cognitive Expertise Examination will register for the exam online via their Personal Page starting in the spring of even-numbered years. There are five steps to the registration process:
    • Select the Medical Toxicology Cognitive Expertise Examination
    • Update medical license information and confirm that your medical license(s) comply with ABEM’s Policy on Medical Licensure 
    • Verify that your contact information is correct
    • Pay the fee in U.S. funds
    • Review billing information to make sure it is correct

Approximately two weeks prior to the opening of the testing window, ABEM will send you information about how to access the exam. They will also remind you when the testing window opens. 

Submit ADA Accommodations

If you need an accommodation for the MedTox Cognitive Expertise Examination, please submit your written request at least eight weeks before the start of the examination testing window. You can submit your request by filling out this form or by emailing subspecialties@abem.org.

Maintain Contact Information with ABEM

ABEM needs your current email, mailing address, and other contact information to reach you during the certification process.

Update your personal information through your ABEM Personal Page. Select “Menu” then select “Update Personal Information” on the left navigation.
